I chose "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson because of the meaning behind the poem. At first it was just the poem that my group was assigned to read in front of the class. Then as i read the poem again i started to see the deeper meaning behind the words. I decided to go with this poem becasue it had meaning in my life to. The meaning for this poem is money can not ever by happiness. In the poem the people thought Richard Cory had everything, but when he kills himself in the end it shows that he may have had everything but he still wasn't happy. This has to do with my life because i may see someone that seems like they have everything but it turns out they still are not happy. I have learned that i can not find my happiness in material things. This poem really spoke to me and reminded me that i have to place my happiness in more fulfilling things not just whatever money can buy. As i am preparing for the class competition i first just read the poem over and over to get it into my head. Then i started memorizing it by saying it aloud. After that i went back to reading the poem, but with meaning. Now i am practicing saying the poem with meaning so i can do the best of my ability on Monday, for the class competition. i cant really say whether or not i will win the competition. I hope to be in the top ten and i will try my best, and then from there whatever happens happens.
